2024 Fall Fashion Trends: What's Hot and What's Not

As the leaves start to turn and the air gets a little crisper, I find myself eagerly anticipating the arrival of fall fashion. There's something so exciting about transitioning from summer's light and airy pieces to the cozy, layered looks of autumn. This year, 2024 brings with it some exciting trends that I can't wait to try—and a few that I'm ready to leave behind. So, let's dive into what's hot and what's not for fall fashion this year!

What's Hot:
  • Bold Outerwear

This season, it’s all about making a statement with your outerwear. Think oversized trench coats, colorful puffer jackets, and dramatic capes. I’ve been seeing a lot of bold, vibrant colors like deep reds, emerald greens, and even some metallics. Personally, I’m a fan of a good trench coat—it's a timeless piece that can be styled in so many ways. Pair it with a chunky knit and some leather boots, and you’re good to go!

  • Tailored Menswear-Inspired Pieces

I’m loving the resurgence of menswear-inspired fashion. Tailored suits, oversized blazers, and structured trousers are making a big comeback this fall. But what I’m particularly excited about is the way these pieces are being styled. It's all about mixing structured pieces with softer, more feminine elements. For example, a well-tailored blazer with a lace camisole or a pair of high-waisted trousers with a delicate silk blouse. It’s the perfect blend of strong and soft, and I am here for it.

  • Earthy Tones and Rich Textures

Fall always brings a beautiful array of earthy tones, and this year is no different. I’m seeing a lot of deep browns, rusts, olive greens, and mustard yellows. But what’s really catching my eye are the textures. Think corduroy, suede, velvet, and chunky knits. These fabrics not only add warmth but also bring depth and interest to any outfit. I’ve already started collecting some corduroy pieces, and I can’t wait to style them with oversized sweaters and ankle boots.

  • Maxi Skirts and Dresses

Maxi skirts and dresses are back in a big way this season. And I have to say, I’m thrilled! There’s something so effortlessly chic about a long, flowing skirt or dress paired with a cozy sweater or a fitted turtleneck. Plus, they’re incredibly versatile—you can dress them up with heels or keep it casual with some sneakers. I’m particularly loving the printed maxi skirts I’ve been seeing; they add such a fun pop of color and pattern to a fall wardrobe.

  • Elevated Knits

Knits are always a staple for fall, but this year they’re getting a bit of an upgrade. I’m seeing a lot of interesting silhouettes and details—think balloon sleeves, asymmetric hems, and even some cut-outs. It’s a fun twist on a classic fall staple. I recently picked up a knit sweater with a unique neckline, and it’s quickly become one of my favorite pieces. It’s perfect for those days when you want to be comfortable but still look put together.

What's Not:
  • Over-the-Top Logomania

I think we can all agree that the era of logos splashed across every piece of clothing is (thankfully) fading. While I love a good branded piece here and there, the over-the-top logomania trend is starting to feel a bit tired. This fall, it’s all about understated luxury—think high-quality fabrics and well-made pieces that speak for themselves, without needing a big logo to make a statement.

  • Micro Bags

Okay, I’ll admit it—I was never really on board with the micro bag trend. I mean, what can you even fit in those tiny things? This fall, I’m happy to see a return to more practical, yet stylish bags. Think roomy totes, structured satchels, and crossbody bags that actually fit all your essentials. As someone who likes to carry a notebook, my phone, and at least a couple of lipsticks, this is a trend I’m definitely behind.

  • Neon Colors

While neon had its moment in the sun (literally), I’m glad to see it taking a back seat this fall. Don’t get me wrong—neon can be fun, but it’s not exactly the most versatile or flattering option for fall fashion. This season, I’m all about those rich, earthy tones that complement the changing colors of the season. It’s a more sophisticated palette that feels right at home as the weather cools down.

  • Bike Shorts as Everyday Wear

I know, I know—bike shorts were comfy, and they had their moment. But let’s be honest, they were never the most flattering option for everyone. This fall, I’m seeing a shift back towards more structured, polished bottoms—think tailored pants, jeans, and midi skirts. It’s a welcome change, in my opinion, especially for those of us who are ready to leave the athleisure trend behind (at least for a little while).

  • Overly Distressed Denim

I love a good pair of jeans as much as the next person, but the overly distressed, ripped-to-shreds denim trend is definitely on its way out. This fall, it’s all about classic, high-quality denim in a range of washes. I’m particularly fond of a good pair of high-waisted, straight-leg jeans—they’re versatile, timeless, and always in style.

Final Thoughts

Fall fashion is all about embracing change—just like the season itself. This year, I'm excited to experiment with bold outerwear, tailored pieces, and luxurious textures. At the same time, I'm ready to say goodbye to some of the more fleeting trends. Fashion is all about having fun and expressing yourself, so don't be afraid to mix and match trends to create a look that's uniquely yours. Happy styling, and here’s to a fabulous fall!
